Inside Freenow by Lyft’s 2025 Sustainability Report:
key climate and mobility milestones
Freenow by Lyft’s 2025 Sustainability Report showcases the company’s progress toward a more sustainable future.
We aren't trying to do everything: we’re trying to do the things that matter. After a rigorous assessment, we've focused our strategy on the five areas where we can make the most impact: Climate change mitigation; Safety for driver partners and riders, Driver partner earnings, Data privacy, and Information security.
“True progress is never a solo endeavour; it is built on the vital connections we share with our partners. Together, we are accelerating the shift toward a more socially inclusive, electrified, and sustainable industry. 2025 marked a definitive turning point with our acquisition by Lyft. This milestone unites our European heritage with global scale, driven by a shared purpose: to serve and connect.” - said Thomas Zimmermann, CEO Freenow by Lyft.
2025 Achievements at a Glance
We set big goals, and we're holding ourselves to them by making Freenow the easy choice for everyone.
Key achievements in 2025 include:
Electrification: 51% of all trips across the Freenow platform were taken in electrified vehicles in 2025. 69% of new taxis & private hire vehicles (PHVs) added to the app were electrified and 61% of Freenow for Business trips were taken in electrified vehicles (electrified includes partially electric and fully electric vehicles)
Emissions: we are more than half of the way (55%) toward our 2030 target for Scope 2 and 13% for Scope 3 GHG emissions.
Community impact: 5.3M euros were raised for NGO partners through our ‘Round Up and Donate’ feature.
Driver partner earnings: we’re committed to protecting and improving driver earnings. We do this through a mix of earnings protection, clear bonus programmes and features designed to help drivers take home more for their time on the road.
Moving Towards an Electrified Journey: Market-by-Market Progress
Freenow is fighting climate change by making electrified travel the easy choice for everyone. By offering everything from fully and partially electric taxis to eBikes, we're building a more sustainable way to move. Our strategy for large-scale electrification is seeing results across Europe:
Germany saw robust legislation drive electrification, with Hamburg holding the record of the city with the highest share of fully electrified rides in 2025 at 44%. We bolstered these efforts through our partnership with NIO, adding approximately 80 fully electrified vehicles to the city.
Ireland holds the top spot for the highest share of full EV rides (16%) of all of our markets. In 2025 we partnered with Tesla, enabling drivers to add over 80 new fully electrified vehicles to the platform in a single year.
France is now our top market for overall electrified rides (including hybrid, PHEV, and EV) with a 93% share, with Lyon leading the way with an impressive 13pp increase in fully-electrified rideshare.
The UK is our second-best market for overall electrified rides (82%), with 78% of rides in London being partially electrified. This progress is driven by Range-Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs) and the zero emission capable (ZEC) standards in London.
Spain implemented a policy in Madrid, Barcelona (since 2021), and Valencia (2025) excluding new diesel/petrol cars (exempting special categories). This decreased ICE rides by 7pp (2024-2025) and made Spain the 3rd most advanced market for overall electrified rides (78%).
Poland saw a surge, increasing the share of partially electrified rides by 12pp over the year, reaching 62%. We teamed up with BYD to add 50 electrified taxis to the platform in Warsaw where over 70% of rides with Freenow are now electrified.
Italy saw a steady rise in partially electrified rides, growing by 2pp over the year, with a 14pp jump in December 2025 due to new taxi licenses. We leveraged our Edison Partnership and On-Car Advertisement (OCA) program to encourage fully electrified upgrades.
Greece remains our most challenging market (88% ICE in 2025). The Greek Climate Law mandates zero-emission vehicles for all newly licensed taxis in Athens and Thessaloniki from January 2026. To ease this transition, we partnered with ZAP Taxi Club to deploy 100 co-branded, fully electrified vehicles by the end of 2026.
Expanding Access to Lower-Carbon Mobility
To accelerate adoption, we’ve made our Green Taxi & Green Ride offering a core part of how we operate. This offering is now built directly into our local booking systems to ensure fully and partially electrified vehicles are a normal part of everyday booking flows.
In 2025, we expanded this offering to 12 additional cities in Europe, increasing our total coverage by 27%. This growth makes lower-emission travel accessible to more passengers and gives them the option to actively choose transport with a reduced carbon impact.
These results show the potential for continued growth across all our markets, and we expect these trends to strengthen further in 2026 and beyond.
