Will I earn more if I switch to an electric vehicle?
All FREE NOW drivers with an electric vehicle are eligible for a £2,000-per-year subsidy payment from FREE NOW, subject to terms and conditions.
If you have an electric vehicle, you’ll also receive offers when passengers specifically request an electric vehicle, as well as receiving standard passenger requests. On average, electric car drivers earn almost £500 per month from trips where a passenger specifically requests an electric vehicle.
Plus, FREE NOW’s electric car drivers get over 40% more tips than petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicle drivers on average.
Finally, electric vehicles are exempt from both the congestion charge and ULEZ. This could save you up to £2,500 per year in congestion charge fees.
This means that you can earn more with an electric taxi or black cab, thanks to the FREE NOW subsidy, more trip offers, extra tips and fewer fees for the congestion charge and ULEZ.
Does it cost more to run an electric vehicle?
It can cost as little as 6p per mile to charge your electric car thanks to our partners. That’s loads less than spending 20p per mile on fuel for a petrol or diesel car.
Plus, FREE NOW has partnerships with different charging providers, giving drivers exclusive access and offers across many charging points in London. This includes 30% off Bonnet charging stations, lowering the cost of charging to just 6p per mile.
How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?
With a rapid charging station, it can take just 35 minutes to charge a Kia e-Niro to 80%. To charge to 100% at a home charging station takes approximately 6 hours.

Zap Map is an essential website for electric black cab and taxi drivers. It has information about charging stations across the UK, including costs and locations. It also has a calculator for calculating the cost of charging an electric vehicle.
