This week we’re meeting Alban De Sainte Marie, Head of Procurement at Freenow. From spinning vinyls to navigating complex negotiations, Alban brings rhythm and creativity to everything he does. He’s spent the past decade mastering procurement across different industries and countries, and today, he leads our Procurement team with passion and precision.
To start, what’s something unique or surprising about you that most people don’t know?
I’ve been DJing for the past 15 years. My flat is packed with music gear and hundreds of vinyls, from funk to techno (my wife would happily get rid of all of this 😉). Reach out if you ever need a motivating playlist while working.
Can you tell us a bit about your background and what brought you to Freenow?
I’ve spent 10 years in Procurement, working in France, the UK, and Ireland across several sectors including public administration, railway, and music. I joined Freenow three years ago as a Senior Procurement Manager and have been Head of Procurement for over a year now, leading a team of five people.
What makes your role both challenging and exciting?
Positioning the Procurement department as a strategic business partner rather than being seen as the “police” or the “cheap buyers.” I also enjoy finding solutions to “impossible” situations by applying a strategic and creative mindset. And finally, influencing, challenging, and negotiating with both external providers and internal teams to unlock maximum value for the company.
What do you appreciate most about working at Freenow?
