We recently caught up with Nadja Jovanovic, our Marketing Country Lead for Greece, who opened up about her journey from working in FMCG to finding her passion for the digital world and making the switch to tech. From childhood shyness to confidently leading the marketing team for Greece, Nadja shares how embracing change and taking on new challenges has shaped her career and her approach to work at FREENOW.
What’s something many people wouldn’t know about you?
The most surprising thing people find about me is when I tell them that I was an extremely shy child. I was so shy that I wouldn’t even play with my own aunt if I hadn’t seen her in two days! As an adult, I enjoy meeting new people, I love presenting in front of thousands of people (offline or online), and I’m never afraid to share my opinion. This is a clear indicator of how putting yourself out there can help you turn your weaknesses into your biggest strengths.
Let's dive into your FREENOW journey! Can you tell us about your professional background and how you ended up at FREENOW?
My career started in the FMCG industry at Mars, Inc., where I did a rotation in various marketing departments, both on a local and European level. During my last role at Mars, which was in e-commerce, I discovered my passion for the digital world and decided to switch to tech. That’s how I joined FREENOW in January 2022 as a Product Marketing Manager for the rider app. In summer 2024, I stepped in to support the Greek marketing team during their transformation period and decided to fully pursue the role of Country Marketing Lead for Greece in January 2025.
What aspects of your current role are you particularly passionate about?
My current role covers a wide range of responsibilities, from very executional tasks to creating marketing strategies and annual plans for the country I lead. This can feel quite overwhelming at the beginning, but once I get to it, everything becomes clearer and easier, and eventually, all the pieces of the puzzle come together.
What’s the one thing you appreciate the most about working at FREENOW?
My favourite aspect about working at FREENOW is the freedom we’re given from day one. No matter the level of seniority or previous experience, we are all trusted to perform our jobs independently, with enough guidance from our managers and main stakeholders when needed. I believe this is what allows us to deliver in a fully remote environment.
What advice would you offer to someone thinking about joining FREENOW?
Think fast, react fast, decide fast. The speed at which the industry and the FREENOW company move requires making decisions and readjusting plans often and quickly. Sometimes this may seem discouraging, but it (almost) always brings better results and makes the work more fulfilling in the end.
Whether you're already part of the FREENOW team or considering joining us, Nadja’s advice is a key reminder of how we all move forward together. Stay tuned for more inspiring chats with the people who make FREENOW an exciting place to be!
